Emil Krafth Ends Sweden Career, Will Be Honoured in Solna

Emil Krafth has informed the Swedish national team's coaching staff that he is ending his international career, according to the Swedish Football Association via Dagens Nyheter. The 32-year-old will be one of five players honoured for their contributions to the national side after Sweden's match against Bosnia-Herzegovina at the national arena in Solna next Saturday.

Krafth is without a club after leaving Newcastle following last season. He joins Emil Forsberg, Robin Olsen, Viktor Claesson and Martin Olsson in a farewell ceremony at the Solna ground.

Why it matters

The five players being saluted represent a substantial body of international experience. Forsberg leads the group with 92 caps, followed by Olsen on 79, Claesson on 74, Olsson on 56 and Krafth, whose own cap count was not given in the reporting.

National team manager Kim Källström said the group has meant a great deal to Swedish football and has produced many fine memories in the blue and yellow shirt, Dagens Nyheter reports.

For Krafth, the announcement closes a chapter that has run alongside a club career spent in England and, before that, in France and his native Sweden. His current status as a free agent means the farewell comes at a moment of transition on both fronts.

A joint send-off in Solna

The tribute will take place after the Bosnia-Herzegovina fixture at the national arena, where the five players will be recognised together rather than individually. The Swedish Football Association confirmed the arrangement, and Källström's comments framed the ceremony as a collective thank-you rather than a single-player event.

The grouping is notable for the range of careers it spans. Forsberg has been a fixture of Sweden's attacking play across major tournaments. Olsen has been a long-serving option in goal. Claesson has accumulated caps across multiple qualifying campaigns, while Olsson's 56 appearances place him among the more experienced defenders of his generation.

Krafth's own international record was not detailed in the reporting, but his inclusion alongside four players with a combined 301 caps indicates the standing in which the federation holds him.

What to watch

The Bosnia-Herzegovina match in Solna next Saturday will be the occasion for the ceremony, and it is the point at which the federation's plans become concrete. Whether Krafth's club future is resolved in the same period is a separate question; the reporting gives no indication of his next move beyond confirming he is currently unattached.
